ALBANY, Ore. — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says both men aboard a small plane died when the experimental aircraft crashed east of Albany.
Undersheriff Bruce Riley identified the victims in the Monday afternoon crash as 46-year-old Timothy Dean Carter of Portland and 45-year-old Jeff Earl Kropf of Halsey, Ore. Both died on impact.
Riley says Carter owned the aircraft and had a private pilot’s license. Kropf had a commercial pilot’s license.
The undersheriff said witnesses reported that the plane was turning to the left over state Highway 226 when part of the wing separated from the plane and fell onto the highway. The aircraft came down in a cow pasture.
