Battle Ground -- As they have done each year since the school opened in 2006, the Battle Ground Elks Lodge No. 2589 gave each third-grade student at Daybreak Primary School his or her own dictionary. Elks members visited the school Oct. 12 to hand out the 144 dictionaries. The Battle Ground Elks Lodge operates under the motto "Elks care, Elks share," and tries to live up to it through being involved in numerous youth activities, including the dictionary giveaway. The Elks also holds an annual holiday party for special-education students in the Battle Ground School District and presents United States flags to Boy Scouts who reach the rank of Eagle Scout.
