The Evergreen Pop Warner Bulldogs will open the Pop Warner Super Bowl tournament on Saturday against a team from Loveland, Colo.
The game against the Loveland Titans — a program in only its second year in Pop Warner — is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. (10 a.m. PST) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. The pairings for the tournament were announced on Tuesday.
Win or lose on Saturday, the Bulldogs will play again on Tuesday, either in a semifinal game or in a consolation game.
Should Evergreen reach the championship game, the Bulldogs will play again on Friday, Dec. 7.
The other six teams in the bracket with Evergreen are from Arizona, Indiana, New York, Connecticut, Florida and North Carolina.
Evergreen Pop Warner, which serves east Vancouver, is the first team from the state of Washington to qualify for the Pop Warner Super Bowl Tournament.
The team is in the Division II bracket for the Pee Wee Division. Pee Wee teams are for ages 9-11, and for 12-year-olds weighing less than 100 pounds.
The Bulldogs players attend Shahala, Pacific, Covington and Wy’East middle schools, and St. Joseph’s Catholic School.
The Bulldogs are trying to raise money to cover the cost of the trip, which is estimated at between $30,000 and $40,000.
The team expects to learn on Wednesday if it will receive any money in the form of a Pop Warner travel grant
Also on Wednesday, the Twilight Pizza Bistro restaurants have pledged 10 percent of the day’s revenue to Evergreen Pop Warner.
The restaurant at 1905 S.E. 192nd Ave., Suite 101 is open 4 p.m. to midnight. The Camas location at 224 N.E. 4th Ave., is open 4-8:30 p.m.
