Isaiah Smith scored 12 of his 31 points in the first quarter as the Chieftains jumped out to a 14-0 lead and cruised past the Timberwolves.

“He dropped off a smidge here,” Columbia River (2-0) coach David Long said in jest of Smith, who set a school record with 42 points in the team’s opener.

The Chieftains applied pressure into the second quarter before backing off with a comfortable lead, Long said.

Mark Bejan scored 17 points to lead Heritage (0-2). The Timberwolves played without injured Tim Hergert, who Long described as the best player in Clark County.
