KEARNS, Utah (AP) — An arbitration hearing concerning the possible permanent removal of short track speedskating coach Jae Su Chun is now set for Nov. 1, causing potential conflicts for skaters who just qualified for the fall U.S. World Cup team.
U.S. Speedskating says it is working to find a solution as athletes initially had until Sunday to decide if they wanted to accept team spots.
The organization also says an independent investigation into allegations that Chun physically, emotionally and verbally abused skaters should be completed by next week.
The situation has divided the athletes. Some back Chun, but as many have left the National Racing Program and now work with coaches for the Utah Olympic Oval’s FAST Team.
U.S. Speedskating says in a statement Wednesday that it plans “immediate action” if issues are uncovered before the arbitration.
