COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Olympic stars Ryan Lochte and Allison Schmitt will headline the U.S. team for the short course world championships.

USA Swimming announced the team Wednesday. Lochte and Schmitt are among 17 Olympians picked for the 43-member squad, which will travel to Istanbul, Turkey, for the championships Dec. 12-16.

Lochte won two golds, two silvers and a bronze at the London Games. He earned six golds and one silver at the last 25-meter championships in Dubai two years ago. He has vowed to keep swimming at least through the 2016 Rio Games.

Schmitt was a breakout performer in London, capturing three golds, plus a silver and a bronze. She has returned to the University of Georgia for her senior year.
