Four units burn at east Vancouver apartment complex

Vancouver firefighters knocked down a two-alarm fire late Friday in at least four units at Ardendale Apartments, 604 S.E. 121st Ave.

KATU reported that several tenants rescued an elderly man from his apartment. Firefighers said he was taken to a hospital; his condition was unknown late Friday. One of those tenants said the man was talking about his dog still in the apartment, and the tenant tried to rescue the dog but couldn’t, KATU reported. The dog’s fate was unknown.

The fire was reported at 9:42 p.m. Firefighters arriving at the scene described flames rising from the roof, according to emergency radio traffic.

The fire was under control by 10:19 p.m.

The units affected were Nos. 145, 146, 147 and 148, according to emergency radio traffic.

Information about the cause of the fire, how many people were displaced and monetary damage were not available late Friday. A spokesperson from Vancouver fire could not be reached.
