Butler scores early in 56-17 win over Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Trae Heeter scored three touchdowns for Butler in the first quarter Saturday as the Bulldogs chewed up in-state rival Valparaiso 56-17 to earn its first road victory of the season.

Heeter ran 11 times for 76 yards and three touchdowns, Matt Lancaster completed 11 of 13 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns, and Butler (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer League) amassed 598 yards of total offense to remain perfect in conference play.

Lancaster hooked up with Tom Judge for a 45-yard touchdown strike with 3:52 remaining in the first quarter and Butler eventually closed out the period with an insurmountable 28-0 lead over the Crusaders.

Valparaiso (0-5, 0-2) finally broke its offensive silence when Mike Pando hit a 41-yard field goal with 3:12 to go in the first half, making it 35-3.

Jake Hutson had 16 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns for the winless Crusaders.
