LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis had arthroscopic left knee surgery and should be ready at the start of spring training in February.

The team said Monday that Ellis had the 30-minute cleanup procedure last Friday at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, the same day and place where slugger Matt Kemp had left shoulder surgery.

Ellis sustained tears to the medial and lateral meniscus, the team said. He will start physical therapy next week and is expected to return to his normal offseason workouts in six weeks.

Ellis finished his first full season in the major leagues with a .270 average, 13 home runs and 52 RBIs.
