Former Walla Walla undersheriff charged with embezzlement at jail

WALLA WALLA — Former Walla Walla County Undersheriff Carole Lepiane has been charged with embezzling money from the sheriff's office.
Papers filed Sept. 19 in federal court in Spokane say Lepiane is suspected of stealing more than $67,000 from 2004 to 2009 by taking money intended for jail inmates and using it for personal online shopping.
Her lawyer, Michael deGrasse, said Lepiane is sorry for the trouble she has caused and hopes to make amends.
