A Washougal man was injured Tuesday evening in a collision in which a motorist tried to take a U-turn on state Highway 14, the Washington State Patrol said.

At 5:20 p.m. Emmanuel A. Gafurov, 19, of Battle Ground was driving westbound in a white 1996 Subaru Impreza on Highway 14 when he realized that he missed the turn onto Salmon Falls Road in Skamania County, the patrol said. He attempted to make a U-turn at Milepost 26 by applying the parking brake and spun out of control, coming to rest facing east in the westbound lane, the WSP reports.

The Impreza collided head-on with a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Express Van driven by Scott Volland, 48, of Washougal, the WSP bulletin said.

Volland’s passenger, Phillip Martin, 46, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and was being treated in the emergency room at The Columbian’s press time.

Gafurov and Volland were not injured, the patrol said.
