Rear-end collision clogs evening traffic in Ridgefield

A rear-end collision on Pioneer Street in Ridgefield clogged traffic up to the Interstate 5 entrance during Wednesday evening's rush hour.
At 5:31 p.m., an eastbound Jeep Cherokee rear-ended a Subaru Outback at 4784 Pioneer Street, one of Ridgefield's main thoroughfares, according to Officer Craig Wattson with the Ridgefield Police Department. The Cherokee flipped onto its side, coming to rest in the westbound lane.
The driver of the Cherokee had minor injuries but refused treatment. The driver of the Subaru was uninjured.
Ridgefield police and La Center police helped direct traffic during the accident. Cars were backed up to the Interstate 5 entrance for about half an hour, said Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy.
No citations had been issued as of Wednesday night.
Dawdy is telling drivers to be extra cautious this weekend because the area is expected to get rain after a long dry spell. The oil on the road will rise up onto the water, making the roads slick.
"The first day or so when it starts raining, it's going to be like ice," Dawdy said.-- Patty Hastings
