POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Matt Lancaster passed for 241 yards and a touchdown to help Butler beat Marist 17-14 in a Pioneer Football League showdown Saturday.

Butler (5-2, 4-0) and Marist took turns scoring in the first half. Trae Heeter scored the first points of the game for Butler on a 2-yard run up the middle. Heeter led Butler in rushing with 116 yards on 25 carries.

Marist (2-4, 1-2) answered when Chuckie Looney connected with Anthony Calgani on a 2-yard pass to tie the game at 7.

After a 35-yard touchdown pass from Lancaster to Brendan Shannon put the Bulldogs on top 14-7 at halftime, a 42-yard pass from Looney to Michael Rios tied the game at 14 in the third quarter.

With a minute remaining in the third quarter, Jonathan Treloar’s 20-yard field goal proved to be the difference, as Butler’s defense held strong and forced punts on Marist’s last three possessions.
