Letter: Electoral College is obsolete

The Columbian
Published: October 14, 2012, 5:00pm

I think it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and to go with the popular vote and let the people say who will be president. The Electoral College was fine back in the day that you couldn’t get all the votes in, however, with modern technology that is not an issue today. The 538 electors should not have the power to overshadow the people of the United States. It’s time for the people of the United States, the majority, not the chosen few, to have a say on who our president is.

Also, it’s time that our Senate and Congress become elected government employees under the same rules as the rest of the government employees, not their own private club.

Let’s go back and follow the Constitution that our original leaders established for this great country.
