Urban Meyer was supposed to usher in an era of throwing it around, backs used as receivers and receivers carrying the ball. Speed — in terms of personnel and even numbers of plays — would be the key.
Instead, Carlos Hyde has brought back a Buckeyes’ attack from another time, back when it was routine to see 235-pound tailbacks muscling through the cracks created by a massive offensive line.
If Meyer has added a wrinkle to the Buckeyes’ attack, it’s to give free rein to quarterback Braxton Miller, who is capable of scrambling for 60 yards or throwing deep for similar yardage.
The seventh-ranked Buckeyes (7-0) are a blend of the old and new.
