Letter: Compromise was denied Obama

The Columbian
Published: October 18, 2012, 5:00pm

I am disappointed that The Columbian endorsed Mitt Romney for president. The comment that “the best leaders break the worst logjams” is not true in today’s politics. After Barack Obama was elected, the GOP stated their objective was to make Obama a one-term president … to the detriment of the entire country. Politics has become a very ugly business; money and power have corrupted the running of this country and has put the electoral process up for sale.

We are supposed to be a democracy, but we are fast becoming a dictatorship. Both parties must relearn the art of compromise, or we will be no better than a Third World country, where each party is out to eliminate the other. We are supposed to be “United States of America. Instead, we have become a very “un-United” America.

It is a sad legacy that we are passing on to our children and grandchildren, a legacy in which lies are accepted as truth and winning at all costs is the only thing that matters.
