DOVER, Del. (AP) — Nick Elko threw for 245 yards and a touchdown and Delaware State’s defense forced three turnovers in the Hornets’ 24-0 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

It was Delaware State’s first shutout since the Hornets (4-3, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) defeated the Aggies 27-0 in 2007.

Elko completed 22 of 36 passes and was sacked just one time. His 13-yard touchdown pass to Travis Tarpley gave the Hornets a 14-0 lead.

Mitchell Ward pushed that lead to 17-0 at halftime with his 23-yard field goal.

Delaware State’s defense took over in the second half. Quintin Fortes recovered a North Carolina A&T (3-4, 1-3) fumble in the quarter and Jermond Colston intercepted Lewis Kindle’s pass and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown in the fourth.

Ernest Adjei and Joe Boyd led Delaware State’s defense with 12 tackles apiece. The Hornets tallied seven tackles for loss.
