Heinicke leads Old Dominion past Towson 31-20

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Taylor Heinicke threw a touchdown and ran for another to lead Old dominion past Towson 31-20 Saturday night.

Ahead 3-0, Old Dominion (6-1, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) extended its lead when Heinicke found Antonio Vaughan for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Heinicke completed 26 of 39 passes for 264 yards with one interception.

After Towson’s D.J. Soven kicked a 30-yard field goal, Heinicke’s 6-yard touchdown run made it 17-3. Heinicke rushed for 71 yards on 10 carries.

Towson (3-4, 2-2) cut the lead to 17-6 on Soven’s 40-yard field goal just before halftime.

Heinicke scored early in the second half with a 36-yard run, and then Blair Roberts recovered Angus Harper’s fumble in the end zone for the 31-6 advantage.

Towson attempted to rally late with two rushing touchdowns by Grant Enders but fell short.

Old Dominion has now won nine of their last 11 games dating back to last year.
