CAMAS — When Seton Catholic tied the score in the fourth quarter against Kalama, what thought was in Seton coach Dan Chase’s mind?
“We’ve got to kick the extra point to win,” Chase said.
And with that extra point came the first win in varsity football for Seton Catholic. And it was a Trico League win.
Will Noce-Sheldon threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Erik Powell with 30 seconds left to tie the game for the Cougars. Powell’s PAT kick gave Seton the victory.
After Kalama took a 12-0 lead in the first quarter, Seton rallied to take the lead when Drew Fuller rushed 3 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Noce-Sheldon had a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter.
But Colton Aschoff’s touchdown run early in the fourth gave the Chinooks a 20-14 lead.
The Cougars recovered a Kalama fumble at midfield with 2:30 left in the game. Two pass interfernce calls on Kalama extended Seton’s winning drive.
Seton Catholic plays a non-league next week at Rainier, Ore.
