Letter: Referendum 74 has nothing to offer: Reject it

The Columbian

Referendum 74 will grant same-sex couples no new rights, but will instead redefine marriage for everyone.

We cannot stand by as activists conduct a social experiment that will be harmful to our children and grandchildren.

Marriage exists for the benefit of children. Social science research and thousand of years of history show that children do best when raised by their married mom and dad.

Washington law already provides full legal equality for same-sex couples, and the Legislature is free to enact additional laws if such are needed. But we do not need to redefine marriage to do so.

Please join the other 32 states that have voted this down when brought before the people.

Vote to reject R-74.
