Salem, Ore., police kill man who refuses to drop firearm

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a Salem police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old man who refused repeated warnings to drop his firearm.

Police say the incident began Sunday evening when a woman called police and reported her boyfriend had a gun and was threatening to kill himself.

Officers located the man outside of his Salem home and repeatedly told him to drop his gun.

Police say an officer shot the man when he failed to comply.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.
