DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have appointed Mark Wiley to a new position of director of pitching operations.

Wiley will oversee the organization’s pitchers from the draft through the minor leagues and into the majors. He also will have a say in the Rockies’ next pitching coach.

Wiley, 64, has spent 43 seasons in pro baseball, including the last five with the Miami Marlins, where he was special assistant to the GM from 2010-12 after serving as pitching coach from 2008-09.

The Rockies are searching for a new manager following Jim Tracy’s resignation. Bench coach Tom Runnels and slugger Jason Giambi have interviewed for the job. Giambi has said he’ll retire as a player if given the job.

The Rockies say they have no timetable for hiring their new manager.
