MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Ty Zimmerman grew up in the shadows of Kansas State, and now he’s getting to stand in the spotlight during a ride that could end in the BCS title game.

The safety of the fourth-ranked Wildcats is trying to concentrate on No. 15 Texas Tech. Kansas State hosts the Red Raiders on Saturday.

Get by that game, though, and the Wildcats will be one step closer to playing for a national championship, and Zimmerman is one of the reasons why. He has four interceptions in his last four games, and is on track to break Jaime Mendez’s school record for picks in a season.

Not bad for a former high school quarterback from the small town of Junction City, Kan.
