VERONA, N.Y. (AP) — Luis Carlos Abregu of Argentina knocked out Thomas Dulorme of Puerto Rico with a flurry of punches in the seventh round Saturday night in a welterweight bout at Turning Stone Casino and Resort.

Abregu (34-1) scored his 28th career knockout with a combination, beginning it with a hard right hand over the top, a punch he landed repeatedly in the fight against Dulorme (16-1), who is ranked No. 1 by the WBC.

Abregu followed with a left jab and a hard left to the head that sent Dulorme to the canvas, and referee Benjy Esteves stopped the bout at 2:35. The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds.

Abregu held a 121 to 54 edge in punches landed and connected on 46 percent of his power punches, while Dulorme connected on just 29 of 85.

Abregu’s only loss came to the current WBC welterweight champion, Timothy Bradley. He has come back from that loss with five consecutive knockout victories.
