Afleeting Lady, Buffum win stakes at Belmont

NEW YORK (AP) — Afleeting Lady and Buffum won the $150,000 handicap stakes Saturday at Belmont Park.

Afleeting Lady took the Turnback the Alarm for fillies and mares by 3 1/2 lengths over All Due Respect. Joel Rosario was aboard for trainer Dale Romans as the 5-year-old got her sixth victory in 19 starts, paying $8 to win. The time was 1:42.17 for 1 1/16 miles.

Buffum set a quick early pace and prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths over Little Drama in the Bold Ruler. Eddie Castro guided the 4-year-old trained by Tom Albertrani to his first stakes victory, and fourth triumph in the last five races. Buffum paid $10.60 to win, covering seven furlongs in 1:21.68.
