Vancouver police were looking for a man around noon on Monday who allegedly attempted to break into an apartment near Fircrest Elementary School.
The attempted burglary was reported around 11:45 a.m. at the Autumn Chase Apartments at 11301 N.E. Seventh St.
Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said a resident of the apartment called a maintenance worker to report that a man tried to open the sliding glass door to his or her apartment. The maintenance worker called 911.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall white male who was wearing a gray shirt and sweatpants. He was seen jumping fences in the area, Kapp said.
Nearby Fircrest Elementary School was put on lockdown, Kapp said.
Police, including a K9 officer, looked for the suspect.
