Prep roundup: Union volleyball gets another shot at Camas in district final

Skyview heads to bi-district tourney as No. 3 seed

Megan LaFond had 11 kills and 13 digs, and Vanessa Muckerheide contributed 12 kills on Tuesday as Union swept Skyview in the Greater St. Helens League volleyball district semifinal match. The scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22.

The win means Union visits league-champion Camas on Wednesday to play for the district title. That match starts at 7 p.m.

Skyview (10-6) will be the district’s No. 3 seed into the bi-district tournament. Brinley Hadfield’s six kills paced the Storm attack on Tuesday.

Sammy Savage had 31 assists for Union (12-3), which finished second to Camas in the GSHL regular season.

Volleyball

2A tiebreaker — Hockinson lost to R.A. Long in four sets in a 2A Greater St. Helens League tiebreaker match at Mark Morris.

R.A. Long won 25-23, 25-17, 30-32, 25-21.

R.A. Long advances to the 2A district tournament, where the Lumberjacks will face Capital of Olympia in the first round.

Girls soccer

Mountain View 2, Prairie 1 — A goal with 40 seconds left gave the Thunder a spot in the Class 3A bi-district playoffs.

Rachel Rand won the ball from the defense and scored her second goal of the night to advance the Thunder. Rand also scored of a Milla Benedetti assist early in the match at Kiggins Bowl.

Prairie (7-9-1) tied the game midway through the second half with a goal from Brielle Lindsey assisted by Payton Meisner. This was the third win for Mountain View over Prairie this season, all by one goal.

Mountain View will play at 2 p.m. Saturday in Burien against an opponent to be determined.

W.F. West 2, Ridgefield 1 — The Bearcats of Chehalis scored twice in the second half to overcome a first-half goal by Liz Smith. W.F. West advances to play for the district championship, while Ridgefield will take on Hockinson on Thursday at Battle Ground District Stadium for one of the 2A bi-district playoff slots.

Hockinson 3, Mark Morris 0 — Aurora Bodenhamer had a goal and an assist as the Hawks extended their season by bllanking the Monarchs. Sydney Cole-Vogler and Mikayla Meisner also scored for Hockinson, which will play Ridgefield in a loser-out game on Thursday.

Montesano 1, Woodland 0 — Woodland lost on a second-half goal, which ended the Beavers’ season in the 1A district playoffs.

Montesano advances to play the winner of Tuesday’s Rochester-King’s Way Christian match for third place.

The third-place match will be played at 5 p.m. Thursday at Kalama High School.

The championship match will follow at 7 p.m. Thursday at Kalama between La Center and Elma.
