Letter: Remember value of Pearson Field

The Columbian

Remember value of Pearson Field

Regarding the Aug. 26 Columbian story “Pearson lands on historic list,” it is important to note Pearson Field is self-supporting. The expenses of running the field are paid for by hangar/building rental fees. No taxpayer monies (save those rental fees paid by pilots of Vancouver/Portland who lease hangars) are used to keep the field operating.

That said, Pearson Field benefits every citizen of Vancouver and Clark County by providing us a lifeline to emergency services and businesses that benefit by air service. This is a needed service. As plans go forward for the Columbia River Crossing, it’s important to realize the above so the field is not sacrificed for something we do not need, like light rail.
