NEW YORK (AP) — Three minor league pitchers have been suspended under baseball’s minor league drug program.
The commissioner’s office announced the penalties Tuesday.
Kevin Grendell, a left-hander with Baltimore’s Class-A Gulf Coast League Orioles, has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Grendell was and 11th-round pick out of San Pasqual High School in Escondido, Calif.
Yancarlos Santiago, a left-hander playing at the rookie level for the Los Angeles Angels, has been suspended 25 games following a violation of the drug prevention and treatment program. Santiago is on the roster of the Orem Owls of the Pioneer League.
Free agent right-hander Ysmael Carmona has also been suspended 25 games for violating the drug prevention and treatment program. Carmona’s suspension will take effect upon his signing with another major league organization.
There have been 85 suspensions under the minor league drug program this year and five in the big league program.
