LITTLE LEAGUE

Little League’s main season runs March-July, including All-Star play. Some leagues offer fall ball programs. Little League is an all-volunteer program. In Washington, it is organized into 11 districts, two of which serve The Columbian’s readership area. Registration for the main spring-summer season is held in January and February for most leagues, and for 2012 is listed below for some leagues. Boundary maps for the leagues in those districts are available on the district websites (listed below).

Here is some basic Little League information:

— Most leagues offer baseball and softball. For 2012, baseball is for players ages 5-18 are based on the player’s age on April 30, 2012. Softball for girls ages 5-18 are based on player’s age on Dec. 31, 2011.

— Practices begin in March and the Little League season runs through mid-June, followed by all-star competition.

Then go north on Everett for 100 yards to the main parking lot for Lacamas Lake Park on the east side of the road. There is an overflow parking area on ortheast 35th Avenue., just north of the park. Saturday, Sept. 29, 10 a.m. — Columbia River 10K & 5K (5K new this year). This will be an out and back on the paved bike path that runs alongside the Columbia River, near the Portland airport. Directions: Take the 1-205 bridge south into Oregon. Take the first exit (Airport Way) then drive east to 122nd Avenue. Go north on 122 to Marine Drive, then go west on Marine Drive.
