YALE — Speelyai Bay Park on Merwin Reservoir will be closed for two weeks beginning Monday to remove hazardous trees. The year-round park and boat ramp is scheduled to reopen on Sept. 26.
The trees being removed are red alders that are near the road and parking lot. The trees are near their growth limit and are decaying. They will be replaced in spring by longer living Douglas-fir, hemlock and cedars.
During the Speelayi closure, Cresap Bay Park will remain open for boat launching. Cresap Bay and Merwin parks will be open for day-use recreation.
