BU hockey team has “sex entitlement” culture

BOSTON (AP) — A recent Boston University report finds a culture of “sexual entitlement” exists among some of the school’s men’s ice hockey players.

The report claims players’ elevated social status as five-time national champions is partly to blame.

The university president commissioned a task force to review the team after two players were accused of sexual assault in a three-month span this winter. One player pleaded guilty to reduced charges while charges were dropped against another.

The committee also found oversight of the team and clear expectations for players’ behavior were lacking, as well as many team members enrolled despite test scores and grades below admission averages.

The task force recommends establishing an office to address sexual assault and requiring the hockey team to undergo annual sexual assault prevention training.
