The Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver will have a Grand Reopening celebration Saturday with live music, refreshments and a special viewing of “The Magestic,” starring Jim Carrey.

The theater, which is more than 70 years old, shut down in 2010 because of economic difficulties.

Bill Leigh subsequently purchased the Kiggins Theatre and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars renovating it. The theater reopened in May 2011.

Megan Trevarthen, marketing director for the Kiggins, said that this is the first chance the theater has had to celebrate that reopening.

“We’ve been open for a year, but we haven’t had a chance to have a party yet,” she said.

The celebration will start at 5 p.m. with catering from Beaches. The film will air at 7 p.m., followed by live music by The Jenny Finn Orchestra. Tickets are $12 in advance from the theater box office and $15 at the door. Visit Kiggins Theatre for details.
