Small east county brush fire prompts warning

Firefighters in east Clark County say a small brush fire Wednesday afternoon serves as a reminder to be careful with outdoor flames and other items that could ignite plants.

Firefighters responded to the reported fire around 2 p.m. north of Washougal. They found a small brush fire in a blackberry batch off a paved path near a group of houses. Camas-Washougal and East County Fire & Rescue firefighters quickly put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Camas-Washougal Chief Nick Swinhart said in a release that people should be careful with outdoor flames and should never discard burning or recently burning items, including matches and cigarettes.

“As our region nears 50 days without measurable rainfall, fire conditions in the Camas and Washougal area are very dangerous,” he said.
