Brewery plans parties to celebrate grand opening

Heathen Brewing is planning a pair of special parties for its Sept. 22 grand opening.

Owner Sunny Parsons, 36, of Vancouver will launch operations with two events — one kid friendly and one for adults only — at the brewery at 5612 N.E. 119th St. in Hazel Dell.

Because the brewery doesn’t have its own brewpub, this is a rare chance for people to sample beer at the brewery. The business sells beer in kegs and growlers to local retailers and restaurants, Parsons said.

“We’ve been stocking up preparing for this,” Parsons said. “We’ll have seven beers and one root beer on tap.”

Parsons will be serving an IPA, a citra IPA, a blonde ale, an amber ale, a porter, a fresh hop ale and a wheat pale ale.

The first party on Sept. 22 will be an 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. family-friendly event with prizes, activities and a treasure hunt to distract the younger set “so the adults can have some quiet time and enjoy the craft beer,” Parsons said.

Kids are free; the first 50 adults who sign up for the “Vantucky VIP” package with the promotional code “Columbian” at http://bit.ly/Obit9T get free admission, a free beer and a keychain.

The second party from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 is geared for those 21 and older. Admission includes pizza, beer and a live performance by Wicked Sin, an ’80s cover band. Tickets range from $10 to $30 at bit.ly/Obin2a.

Last month Heathen Brewing won a bronze People’s Choice award at the Vancouver Brewfest for Malice, an imperial India Pale Ale. It was the first time Parson’s beers were available to the public.

They’ll also have two beers on tap at By The Bottle, 104 W. Evergreen Blvd., from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 15 as part of the Drink This event, he said.

“I hope a lot of people come out to our grand opening to check out our first lineup of beers,” Parsons said.
