The Heritage Timberwolves took on the Kelso Hilanders in a hot game offensively and temperature-wise at McKenzie Stadium on Friday night.

Kelso won the game in a well-fought battle for both sides, according to coach Jack Hathaway.

“Both teams were pretty tired going into the third,” Hathaway said. “But I really liked the way my team came back and fought in the fourth quarter.”

The Timberwolves scored in the first 15 seconds of the game when E’Lon Mack took a kickoff return 89 yards for a quick touchdown.

Heritage found themselves in the lead or tied for the majority of the game. Kelso took its first lead, 41-40, off of running back Taylor Radcliffe’s 39-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run.

The Timberwolves took the lead back, 46-41, with seven minutes left in the game on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Loren Standiford to Tim Hergert, but minutes later Kelso’s Radcliffe punched the game winning touchdown from 4 yards.

Next week Heritage takes on Enumclaw at McKenzie Stadium.

“We have some things we need to work on in practice such as not letting our intensity go away,” Stadiford said. “You will see a very hungry team here next week.”
