Bethune Cookman beats South Carolina State 27-14

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Isidore Jackson ran for 88 yards and one touchdown to help Bethune-Cookman beat Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival South Carolina State 27-14 Saturday night.

South Carolina State (1-1) scored the only points of the first quarter. Asheton Jordan’s 5-yard run and Jalen Simmons’ run from 3-yards out gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

The Wildcats (2-0) got on the board in the second quarter with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Tyrone Bouie. Jackson then ran it in from four yards to tie the game at 14. Sven Hurd added a field goal to make the halftime lead 17-14.

The Wildcats’ defense took over, shutting down South Carolina State the rest of the way as Bethune-Cookman scored 27 unanswered points.

Rodney Scott’s 3-yard touchdown run was the lone score of the fourth quarter.

This marked the 50th meeting between the teams with South Carolina State leading the series 31-18-1.
