Elon overwhelms North Carolina Central 34-14

ELON, N.C. (AP) — Elon’s defense held North Carolina Central to 110 yards total offense in a 34-14 victory on Saturday night.

The Phoenix (1-1) intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble. Elon limited North Carolina Central (1-1) to 39 yards in the first half, when the Phoenix led 31-7.

Phoenix quarterback Thomas Wilson completed 13 of 18 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, including a 35-yarder to Thomas Wilson with 10 seconds left in the first half. The Phoenix’s David Wood snagged the first interception of his career and returned the ball 29 yards to North Carolina Central’s 9, which led to Adam Shreiner’s 28-yard field goal for a 17-0 advantage.

North Carolina Central’s Andre Clarke ran 1 yard for a touchdown, and Jordan Reid threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Geovonie Irvine in the fourth quarter.

It was the 900th game in Elon’s history. Elon leads the series 8-3.
