Letter: Pay freeze is ruse to distract voters

I certainly hope voters don't buy into this vapid and insulting salary ruse being played by the candidates for Clark County commissioner. A Sept. 5 story reported "Boldt, Mielke vote to freeze their pay." This feigned attempt at altruism is nothing more than a ploy to divert attention from important issues. I believe their salary is commensurate with the responsibilities of the job and is hardly an issue.

However, if you believe that your county commissioner is failing to meet the expectations and responsibilities of the job, then vote for the candidate who best does. Otherwise, casting a vote based on a shallow attempt to garner good will by offering up a few bucks only helps to validate and solidify their perception of the average voter's intelligence.

Analysis of just about any political campaign reveals that candidates rely heavily on a lack of applied critical analysis with a voter preference for overly simplified topics and tag lines.
