Trade groups endorse Tanner for commissioner

Vicki Glasow, president of the Realtors group, issued a statement that said Boldt and Tanner “have a keen understanding of the many complex issues facing our growing community, and more specifically the issues facing our real estate industry. Commissioner Boldt has consistently demonstrated a pro-business philosophy in opposing fee hikes and taxes on business and citizens while serving on the Clark County Board of Commissioners. Mr Tanner has been a leader in economic development with service to our community that spans more than three decades. As commissioners, these candidates have the vitality to lead the charge to improve the business climate in Clark County,” she said.

Avaly Mobbs, executive director of the Building Industry Association of Clark County, earlier cited what she called Boldt’s proven leadership, his deserved reputation as a coalition-builder and his strong advocacy for the building industry.

Mobbs said the BIA’s Board of Directors voted Tuesday to endorse Tanner.

She said the board endorsed Tanner because he’s a business-friendly candidate who has demonstrated history, as a former state lawmaker and founding president of the Columbia River Economic Development Council, of creating jobs while bringing fresh ideas and energy to the table.

“Tanner will be more than just a vote, he’ll be an active advocate for Clark County,” Mobbs said.

Mielke also served as a state lawmaker before becoming a commissioner.

The BIA board also voted Tuesday to endorse Julia Anderson, a candidate for Clark Public Utilities Commissioner District 1.

The Realtors, however, have endorsed Jim Malinowski for the nonpartisan utility board position.

The Clark County Association of Realtors has 1,318 members.

The BIA of Clark County has 550 members, representing more than 10,000 workers.

In legislative races, in the 17th District, Realtors endorsed State Sen. Don Benton, State Rep. Paul Harris and Julie Olson, a candidate for state representative. In the 18th District, the Realtors endorsed State Sen. Ann Rivers and Brandon Vick and Liz Pike, candidates for state representative positions 1 and 2, respectively.

In the 49th District, the Realtors endorsed Eileen Qutub, a candidate for state senator, State Rep. Jim Moeller and State Rep. Sharon Wylie.

All of the endorsed legislative candidates are Republicans with the exception of Moeller and Wylie.
