ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has returned to practice after being excused to be with his family in Alabama to mourn the shooting death of his younger brother.

Though absent in the locker room before practice, Dareus was on the field working out Thursday afternoon. That means he should be ready to play in the Bills’ home-opener against Kansas City on Sunday.

Dareus’ brother, Simeon Gilmore, was one of three people killed Sunday during a burglary in the Birmingham, Ala., suburb of Pelham. Authorities said 20-year-old Jon Staggs Jr. has been charged with capital murder and burglary.

Earlier on Thursday, Dareus posted a note on his Twitter account thanking fans for their support. He also referred to his brother’s death as a reason to “get guns off the streets.”
