The Clark County Republican headquarters in Hazel Dell was vandalized sometime before 3 a.m. today, causing a couple thousand dollars in damages to the glass front door and two windows, Clark County GOP Chairwoman Stephanie McClintock said.
A Clark County Sheriff's deputy discovered the vandalism. The deputy did not see anyone in the area, and there are no suspects in the case, Sgt. Fred Neiman said.
"It didn't appear that entry had been made into the building," Neiman said. The headquarters is located at 7736 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave.
The owner of the business complex that leases the GOP office space was notified of the vandalism and was responsible for securing the area, Neiman said.
McClintock became aware of the vandalism at about 9 a.m., when she arrived at the GOP offices to see shattered glass and rocks inside the building. Adding insult to injury, it appears one of the rocks also knocked over an American flag inside the headquarters, she said.
"I like to think that it's just a bunch of kids being kids, but it's campaign season and our signs are being torn down at a record number," McClintock said.
McClintock estimated it would take a couple thousand dollars to replace the glass that was damaged. Clark County Republicans also plan to spend money on a video surveillance system at the headquarters.
That's money that "could go to our candidates," McClintock said. "I'm up for a fight, but I want it to be a fair fight" this campaign season, she added.
Anyone with information in the case is encouraged to call the Clark County Sheriff's West Precinct at (360) 397-6079.
