Union 28, Peninsula 21
Leon Siofele ran for three touchdowns and Treve Ensley had a game-changing run as the Union Titans rallied past the Peninsula Seahawks in Gig Harbor.
Ensley dashed 69 yards on a counter play to tie the score at 21-21 early in the fourth quarter.
Ethan Beniga then delivered a big play on defense, forcing a fumble on a third-down Peninsula pass and recovering the ball to set up a short field for the Titans (2-1). Siofele’s third score of the game, an 8-yard run, put Union on top.
Peninsula (1-2) was held on downs near its own 40 and the Titans ran out the clock.
“We just played a more physical (second) half,” Union coach Cale Piland said.
Piland said his Titans were a bit sluggish at the start of the game, but had time to make up for their slow start. He said an eight-minute touchdown march at the start of the second half helped turn the momentum to his team.
Ensley finished with 126 yards on six carries, and Siofele netted 73 on 15 carries.
Jimmy Price of Peninsula rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns, including an 89-yarder in the second quarter to give the Seahawks a 14-7 halftime lead.
