Donnelly lifts Brown to 24-21 win over Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Senior Patrick Donnelly passed for two touchdowns and rushed for the go-ahead score in his first collegiate start as Brown edged Holy Cross 24-21 Saturday in the Bears’ season opener.

Trailing 21-10 going into the fourth quarter, Donnelly hit Jonah Fay with a 2-yard pass, capping a 13-play, 75-yard drive with 10:17 remaining.

On Brown’s next possession, senior Spiro Theodhosi, who missed the last two years due to injury, accounted for 53 of his 120 yards rushing. Donnelly ran 10 yards for the score with 1:24 left.

A.J. Cruz ended the Crusaders’ final drive by intercepting Ryan Laughlin with 56 seconds remaining.

Donnelly was 24 of 41 for 199 yards with two interceptions and also had a 38-yard TD pass to Tellef Lundevall in the third quarter.

Kevin Watson was 26 of 40 for 223 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for a 1-yard score for Holy Cross (0-2).
