Sunday, September 16, 2012
Clark County — Congregation Kol Ami, Clark County's Reform Jewish group, is celebrating Rosh Hashana -- the new year -- this week.
High Holy Days services begin at 7:30 p.m. today and continue through Tuesday. Services for Yom Kippur, the conclusion of High Holy Days, begin at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 and continue through Sept. 26.
Kol Ami will celebrate Taschlich Service -- the casting off of sins -- at Salmon Creek Park's Klineline Pond at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Rabbi Elizabeth Dunsker will be leading prayer.
The ritual of Taschlich is always performed on the first afternoon of Rosh Hashana. Prayers are recited near natural flowing water and the custom is to throw bread or pebbles into the water.
