Mountain View wins Titan Cup

For a golf team as deep as Mountain View is, the Titan Cup was a perfect event for the Thunder.

Six Mountain View golfers won in the morning best ball four-man and then also won in singles as the Thunder claimed their first Titan Cup title Monday at Camas Meadows.

Mountain View defeated Hockinson 4-1 in the morning and then knocked off Columbia River 7 1/2 -2 1/2 in the afternoon of the Ryder Cup format tournament.

Taylor Smith, Zach Ng, Ryan Yeh, Zac Hoffman, Niko Magistrale, Collin Herrema all accounted for two points for the Thunder.

Smith and Ng defeated Hockinson’s Nick Huff and Taylor Rennaker 2-up. Smith also topped Columbia River’s Brandon Barnes 3 and 1.

“We couldn’t have drawn it up any better,” Mountain View coach John McCausland said. “In singles all our JV kids won their matches for five points, and the varsity players split (their matches).”

McCausland said his team has played in several of the past Titan Cups and “got smoked every year.”

Not this time.

“The singles matchups worked well as we are very deep,” McCausland said. “It was one of those days were the stars aligned.”
