For all readers who are outraged at the editorial cartoon published Sept. 8, join me in lamenting how low we stoop when we let political or radical ideas speak for all of us. I have subscribed for more than 30 years and I have never felt so angry as I was in viewing the cartoon. (The cartoon illustrated a woman at a bar in a low-cut dress titled “Women voters,” sitting next to an elephant with a cocktail in hand saying, “If I said you had a beautiful body, would you let me make sweeping decisions about its reproductive health?”)
Whatever our political persuasion may be, this cartoon is an insult to women and to the American way. I think the American people are better than this and the cartoon does not represent the viewpoint of the good people of our country. Perhaps it is time for the “silent majority” to let our voices be heard.
