Tigers' Scherzer pulled with shoulder fatigue
Tuesday, September 18, 2012
DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer has been lifted from Tuesday night's start against Oakland after only two innings because of a fatigued throwing shoulder.
He's scheduled to have an MRI.
Scherzer, who has been brilliant of late, allowed a run and two hits, striking out four. He'd thrown only 44 pitches when left-hander Darin Downs came on from the bullpen to start the third.
Detroit led 2-1 when he Scherzer left.
Scherzer entered the game with a 16-6 record and a 3.77 ERA, as well as a major league-leading 220 strikeouts.
Detroit trails the first-place Chicago White Sox by three games in the AL Central.
