TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton returned to practice on Thursday, though it’s unclear whether his sprained right ankle will be healthy enough to allow him to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Skelton beat out Kevin Kolb as Arizona’s starter in a tight preseason race, but sprained his ankle in the Cardinals’ opener against Seattle.

Kolb came off the bench to lead Arizona on the winning drive in that game and helped the Cardinals to a 20-18 road victory over New England last Sunday with Skelton still out.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Skelton was limited in practice on Thursday and that it’s too early to tell if he’ll be ready for Sunday’s game against the Eagles, Kolb’s former team.
