Both in new eras, Temple set to take on Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Temple gets closer every year to upsetting Penn State, only to be outmuscled down the stretch by the Nittany Lions.

The latest meeting in this one-sided Pennsylvania rivalry comes Saturday at Beaver Stadium.

Temple's decades of futility date back to 1941, when it last beat Penn State. The Nittany Lions needed second-half comebacks to beat Temple each of the previous two years.

This season, the Owls (1-1) are riding momentum after moving back into the Big East. They've had two weeks off to get over injuries and a mistake-prone, 36-27 loss to Maryland.

Penn State (1-2) is coming off its first win of the season, a 34-7 victory over Navy. The defense's tough front seven may need to prepare for a run-oriented Owls offense that could pass more on Saturday.
